So with all this talk of zombies and flesh eating cannibals going on I figured I’d share a project I’ve been working on for a little under two years now. While this was started just for fun, since its inception I’ve continued to add to it and put more thought and careful planning into it. While you may not agree with what I’ve written, perhaps it will inspire some of you to make some plans of your own and maybe it will bring some things up that you haven’t thought of before.
I’ll be putting this up in sections, starting with this one. Enjoy!
THE ZOMBIE PLAN – Don’t make an ASS of yoU and ME
NEVER assume that zombies will behave the way they do in movies or books. Always assume the worst until proven otherwise: running zombies, intelligent [learning] zombies, zombies with special mutated characteristics, etc. Assume that the undead have every advantage over you until you can prove otherwise. Just remember that zombies also will never stop, never tire. They will pound on a barricade until either their hands fall off or they get through. More often than not, it will be the latter.
UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES should you try to take a vehicle onto the freeway. Do not use freeways at all for that matter. While the only thing that may be able to maneuver through the congestion there is a motorcycle or bike of some sort, it is a bottleneck with plenty of blind spots for an undead to be waiting. All it would have to do is reach over and grab you right off, or knock you off by hanging an arm around a corner. And while some may argue that there won’t be any congestion on the freeways, just remember that it ONLY TAKES ONE vehicle under a certain set of circumstances to stop an entire freeway, no matter how well the government will be able to get people coordinated.
One thing to remember is that the probability of phone [both land-line and cellular] networks being down is high due to the extremely high rate of traffic which will emanate from people calling 9-1-1 or loved ones. Internet service is an unknown, as it would depend on the servers being self sufficient or if they require a human component to maintain them. Obviously unless someone were to arrive to maintain the servers they would eventually burn out, but the probability of them being active for a few days on their own is plausible.
DO NOT trust anyone that you do not know yourself. There will be many out there who would just as soon shoot you for your weapons and supplies as to save you from the undead horde. Also remember that some will save you from the undead horde just to shoot you and take your weapons and supplies. You are your best ally. Even close friends or relatives can become ‘unhinged’ and jeopardize the safety of the group. When family or friends die, it is then that you will have to watch your own [Mainly the closest to the deceased] for any signs of instability. While you may think you know someone and fully believe that you know how they would react to a given situation, you must realize that you may NOT know the person as well as you believe. A said individual may have an opposite reaction which would be in complete opposition to whatever the popular belief is.
AGAINST heading to any law enforcement agency [LE, DHS, etc.] or military instillation during the initial outbreak of the undead. The amount of ‘refugees’ heading to these locations seeking shelter and protection will be high, making it hard to get to these locations. On top of that, the amount of people will give the limited units a hard time protecting the large amount of people along with the high chance of an infected slipping in with the crowd due to confusion and chaos. If the installation is still operational and secure after a month at most, it should be safe to head there and seek shelter and protection. If they were overrun, a month is adequate time for the undead to feed on all the living in the area and to move away from the location to seek more sources of sustenance. The amounts of undead that remain in the area should be minimal, but as always, prepare for the worst.
